About Me
I joined the Joe Lewis karate studio in Wichita Falls, Tx in 1972 under Sensei Dave Roberts. He was a Staff sergeant in the Air Force with ranking in TKD and Shotokan karate. I attained the ranking of Shodan in TKD and Shotokan karate. In 1975 Joe Lewis conducted a fighting seminar of which I attended. The studio transitioned to Tracy's Kenpo Karate system shortly after that. In 1976-1977 Mike Browning and I were testing for Brown belt given by Master Al Tracy himself. Master Tracy had us do the techniques on each other at full speed with control which was not protocol at that time. At the end of our testing Master Tracy awarded us Shodan ranking. He stated that our skill level was phenomenal making us the 1st students to achieve black belt under 2yrs. I was promoted to 2nd degree black belt by Master Parker in 1980. Mike Browning and I helped to implement the free style techniques in American Kenpo Karate. I opened my own studio in 1979 and operated it for 26yrs teaching Tracy's Kenpo Karate and the Parker system. I was promoted to 3rd degree black by Master Tracy in 1982. In 1997 I started studding under Master Tom Kelly out of Wichita, Kansas. In 2001 I was promoted to 4th degree black. I continued to study under Master Kelly until 2003. Master Kelly passed away in 2011. I have continued to teach the Parker system of Kenpo Karate because I love the art. It is a natural part of me. In 1998 I attended Master Tom Kelly's weekend warriors and had the privilege of training with Mr. Jeff Speakmen. In 1979 I had the opportunity to provide security for the rock group Toto and Sister Sledge and The Bar Kays, Wild Cherry and Head East in the early 1980's. In 1980 I attended a seminar on stretching with Mr. Bill Wallace, that was a split decision and helpful in attaining the flexibility I needed in learning and executing kicks. I am grateful for the knowledge that I have acquired and the people I have met. .
